APRIL MEETING

posted Apr 14, 2019, 1:43 PM by Sam Angell

Just thought I would e-mail all a reminder notice of the April 17th meeting on Wednesday night at 7:00 PM at the VFW #4903 at 5320 E. Bellevue St.

Our Guest speaker will be Hudson Bay and the status on the Rosemont Copper Mine.

We will continue selling tickets for the 1/4 oz. Nugget at $2 per ticket a This 1/4 oz. Nugget will be raffled off at this April's Annual Common Dig outing, so make sure you get your tickets.

We continue to purchase gold nuggets from our members at the meeting.  So, if anyone has gold nuggets that they want to sell, remember to bring them to the meeting. We are particularly interested in the size of nuggets that we give out blue and red ticket raffles.

Reminder the weather is starting to warm up, so make sure that you start hydrating extra a few days prior to the outing.

The outing this month is our Annual Common Dig (23rd Annual) on Saturday, April 20th.  Registration for the event will be at the camp right up to the 8:00 AM hour when we will travel to the Polaris claim for the common dig.  We will have Wet sluices and dry washers set-up for the dig.

We will also need a few wet wash sluices and plenty of water, so if you can bring water for the wet systems, that will be great.  In the past, we have consumed several hundred gallons for the Common Dig, so bring what you can.

Camping is available and free (free, because the club paid the permit with the BLM, otherwise free).  There will be a few rules for camping to keep everyone safe.  All dogs must be kept on leashes/chains at all times within the campsite for the period of the campout (Thursday morning through Sunday PM), no exceptions.  Also, be mindful of others and pick up after your dogs, if they do their business within the campsite area. Generators can be used from 6 AM to 10 PM.

There will be the normal Friendship Stew on Friday night.

We also are having a NIGHT COIN SHOOT on Friday night.  Rules, there will be a $1 entry fee for all those in the coin shoot.  If you find this Money nugget, you are done for the event.  There will be a nugget with a $ sign that will represent the cash prize.  This should be a great enticement to metal detect.  The same will also happen for the Saturday afternoon Coin Shoot as well.

The Hot Dog Ladies will be selling hot dogs/chips ($2) at lunch.  You can also bring your own lunch.  Make sure that you bring plenty of water, sunscreen, etc.

If you have any questions, please e-mail.

The weather should be pretty good and we will have a great time, so come out and join us.

Saturday's Events/Agenda:

Bags of Concentrates given out

Directions to the Common Dig:

Travel west on Arivaca Rd. to .3 mile past the Mile Post 7 marker.  Turn right onto the dirt road (heading North), follow the road for about 1 mile to the intersection with the Las Guijas Cerro Colorado Rd and make a left (heading west), the camp is about 2.5 miles from the turn.  There will be GPAA/GPAT signs out just as you get onto the dirt road and at key locations.  the first 1.5 off of Mile Post 7 is a little rough, so take your time coming in and plan for a little longer travel time.

March Meeting

posted Mar 18, 2019, 4:13 PM by Sam Angell

All,

Just a friendly reminder of our upcoming Membership meeting on March 20th Wednesday night at 7:00 PM.  Our meeting will be at the VFW Hall at 5320 E. Bellevue.

How was the Gold Show in Phoenix?  I hope everyone enjoyed it.

More wet weather is making for poor dry washing conditions this winter season.  It's a tough go, even for wet washing, the is just too wet.

We will continue the sale of the tickets for the 1/4 oz. nugget this meeting with the drawing to be held at the April Common Dig.

I will be bringing more of the loaner books on Mining/Prospecting to the meeting this month.  For those that borrowed books last month, please remember to bring them to the meeting to give others a chance to read them.

I want to start asking for volunteers for the upcoming Common Dig in April.  We are in need of someone to be the Wet Operations Master and we will need several Dry washers as usual.   Is anyone interested?  If anyone has other ideas for the Common Dig, let's hear them.  Let's make this year better, we always have a great time.

Our outing this month would be scheduled for one of the claims in the Santa Rita Mtns.  I am thinking that we should go over to the Arivaca claim, Polaris and make sure the Road to the claim will be passable for the Common Dig.  Please send me some feedback.

Thanks,

David Steimle

All,

Just a friendly reminder of our upcoming Membership meeting on January 16th Wednesday Night at 7:00 PM.  Our meeting will be at the VFW Hall at 5320 E. Bellevue.

Everyone missed the SNOW outing between Christmas and New Year's.  It was cold, white, and fun.  We had 3 inches of snow Friday morning, followed by a brisk 15-degree morning on Saturday.

I want to thank all of you for coming to the Christmas dinner, I think everyone had a great time.

At this meeting, we will also be voting in all nominations for officer positions.  The open positions are President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, and the two positions for Three Board Members.   Nominated for President is David Steimle, for Vice-President is Ken Summers, Jan Carden for Treasurer, Secretary is still open, and the two Three Year Boards Members are Mike Wheeler and Gil Mireles.  Linda Hartman was originally nominated for treasurer, unfortunately, she had to withdraw due to family medical issues in California.  If there is anyone interested in the Secretary position, please contact me or nominate yourself at the January meeting.

We will start the sale of the tickets for the 1/4 oz. nugget this meeting with the drawing to be held at the April Common Dig.

This months outing will be on Saturday (1/19) at the Polaris claim and the meet time is now back to the 8 AM time.  We will meet at the Mile Post 7 turn off of Arivaca Rd.

In a bit of sad news, JR Smith informed me this evening that his mom, Beverly, is in another bout with her cancer and is in Hospice at TMC's Peppi's Hospice House, Rm 1011 near TMC Grant Rd/Wyatt (2715 N. Wyatt Dr).  If you can find time to visit her that would be great.

All are welcome to this event.  During the picnic, please help your children get their food, so that things don't get dropped, or have accidents.  We will be doing the picnic/potluck the same as last year, we will be cooking all the steaks (steaks, burgers, hot dogs will be in warmers) and will serve them and then you will be able to get the other food after getting your desired meat selection.

This months outing is our 22nd Annual Picnic and Panning Contest to be held on Saturday, October 20th at the Friendship claim on the shady side.
